Autumn turmeric is a perennial herb native to tropical Asia, and is cultivated in Okinawa, southern Kyushu, and other areas.
It has been popular in Japan for a long time, so much so that there is a record that Himiko of Yamataikoku dedicated it to Chinese soil.
It is called autumn turmeric because it blooms pale yellow flowers in autumn, and the rhizome used is orange in contrast to spring turmeric's pale yellow color.
